Who We Are
What differentiates Brownstone Nannies from impersonal agencies? With Brownstone Nannies, you will only meet candidates who have been personally screened by Sharon Tepper, a local mother, whose standards and concerns reflect your own.
Sharon is the mother of two young children, and has a keen understanding of the challenges involved in finding great childcare providers. She started this service in response to the need in her community amongst parents for advice in navigating the nanny hiring process. Sharon carefully screens each candidate herself, with the same scrutiny she would give to someone who would care for her own children.
One of the reasons Sharon chose not to return to the workforce following the birth of her first child was that she found it difficult to trust anyone other than her own family members to care for him. It took her almost seven months to hire a babysitter! Over the years, as she has met more and more nannies, and seen them in action throughout the neighborhood, she has identified really wonderful caregivers and is inspired by all they bring to the care of children.
Sharon’s background is in urban planning. She received her BS in Human-Environment Relations from Cornell University and her Masters in Urban Planning from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Sharon is active in the community, volunteering her time on the boards of the Prospect Park YMCA in Park Slope and Future City, Inc., a non-profit in Elizabeth, NJ that educates youth about sustainable development in their neighborhoods and the region as a whole.
